Creating Amazing Outside Space and Keeping the Kids Entertained.

The sun is set to put in an appearance for the next few days and with the long 6-week summer holidays fast approaching, it can often be hard trying to find things to do to entertain the kids, but spending some time getting creative in the garden is a great way to go.  Not only can the kids join in, but it is also a great way of improving your outdoor space if you are considering selling your property.

Over the next few paragraphs, I will give you some ideas on how you can do this.

Water

Fortunately thanks to all the rain we have had, we shouldn’t be experiencing a hose pipe ban anytime soon.  With this in mind I am going to be promoting the use of lots of water – Yes you have guessed it in the form of a paddling pool! It not only keeps kids entertained and cool in the heat but the remaining water can be used for good old fashioned water fights and to water the plants and lawn at the end of the day.

Rockeries /Feature Borders

Create a rockery / feature border.  This is the perfect opportunity to go on a spending spree with the kids for something other than toys. The children can pick the stones and maybe some paint so the rocks can be different colours.  Then it is all about choosing lots of plants and flowers, going back and building it.  You could even add a bug house in the corner or ensure that the flowers attract honey bees which are an endangered species.  This is also a great way to educate your children while having lots of fun in the process.

Plenty of Flower Pots

Another option is to add lots of pots and fill them with flowers or fruit and veg.  By doing this you are keeping costs to a minimum and is ideal for any outdoor space no matter what size or shape. Again, by doing this you are educating your children by teaching them how to plant, look after them, and in the case of fruit and veg knowing when they will be ready for eating etc. The bonus point here is, if you are thinking about saving some money long term – this is a great first step down the self-sufficiency route – move over Tom and Barbara there are new Goods on the block.

Play Areas

Design a play area, find a spot in the garden that the kids can call their own. Once you have found the best place, add a sand pit, if there is room a swing and / or slide, and a brightly coloured table and chairs where they can do arts and crafts or eat. They can help pick the colours and where to place everything.

Get Active

The final idea I am going to mention is sports equipment – this is so simple, yet very effective.  You don’t want anything too invasive or anything that will take over the entire garden due to size, but small things such as a basketball hoop, are brilliant ways for kids to burn energy.

All these ideas are great ways of keep the kids entertained while improving your outdoor space at the same time. But the biggest plus from doing all of this means that should you decide to sell your home any time soon, your garden will be looking perfect and presentable.  After all the outdoor space is just as important as indoor space. Although this article has focused on the rear garden the same rules apply for the front garden.  All lawns should be neat and tidy, hedges trimmed etc, after all you don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression. And let’s be honest the outside of your property is that first impression.
